White Nights Brass

The White Nights Brass was formed in 1995 by students studying at the St. Petersburg State Conservatory. The name of the ensemble reflects the lightness and joy of their music-reminiscent of the magnificent White Nights of St. Petersburg - one of the symbols of the great city.

Since very beginning White Nights Brass Quintet has an ongoing commitment to expanding the repertoire, it's grown to include many arrangements from all musical styles and periods, including the baroque, renaissance, classic, romantic, big band, Dixieland, modern musicals and movie themes. The lush sonority of the brass quintet provides audiences with a range of sounds and styles, which spans over 500 years, unmatched by any other chamber ensemble.

The WNB is equally at home performing in large concert halls, smaller venues such as churches and recital rooms, or on big outdoor stages. The ensemble is known for presenting its varied programs in a lively, humorous and theatrical way and specializes in choosing selections to please each audience.

In addition to playing around St. Petersburg, the WNB performs regularly in Europe. They perform to great success on stages, in churches and at festivals in Germany, Holland and France. The quintet was also featured in the Church Music Festival "Kirkko Soikoon!" in Finland in 2001 and serves as Faculty Quintet-in-Residence at "Meraner Musikwochen" festival in Merano, Italy.

The WNB consists of Oleg Grechnev, trumpet; Vitlay Yudenok, trumpet; Alexander Grishchenkov, French horn; Sergey Gusiatinsky, trombone; and Pavel Vasileshnikov on tuba. The quintet's members are St. Petersburg area freelance musicians - performing in a wide variety of settings in St. Petersburg. Members of the WNB regularly perform in the St. Petersburg Philharmonic, Mariinsky Theater, record movie scores, soloing in The Radio Symphony Orchestra.

Comprised of some of the finest instrumentalists in the St. Petersburg, The WNB has established itself as an exciting chamber ensemble dedicated to bringing the rich traditions of brass chamber music to new audiences.
